How Long Will This Take?
Plan to complete your session in one sitting — your invitation email will tell you how long to expect
Signal Sessions vary in length depending on the type of interview. Check your invitation email — it will tell you approximately how long to set aside. Sessions can range from around 5 minutes to 30 minutes, so the invitation is the most reliable guide.
There's no clock counting down
A Signal Session isn't timed. The AI interviewer will have a set of topics to cover, but it works through them at your pace. If you want to think before you answer, take your time — the AI will wait. If you have a lot to say on a topic, say it. There's no rush.
What affects the length
How long your session runs depends on a few things:
- The topic and interview style. Some sessions focus on a single area; others cover more ground.
- How much you share. The more detail you go into, the longer the session — and the richer the insights.
- The number of topics. The organization running the session defines the scope. They'll have set a target length when they designed it.
Plan to complete in one sitting
Once you start your session, plan to finish it in one go. You can take a moment to collect your thoughts before answering — the AI will wait — but you cannot leave and come back later. If you close the browser or end the session, it will be marked complete and cannot be resumed. Make sure you have enough uninterrupted time before you begin.
What if I finish faster than expected?
That's fine. The AI moves on when it has enough information on a topic. If the conversation wraps up in less time, that's a complete session — you haven't done anything wrong. In fact, giving detailed, specific answers with concrete examples gives the AI more to work with on each topic, which can help the session move through its topics more efficiently.
Tips for a natural pace
- Find a quiet spot before you start so you're not rushed.
- Set aside the time noted in your invitation — and a few extra minutes of buffer so you're not rushing.
- Treat it like a conversation, not a task to complete as quickly as possible.
