Signal Session Won't Connect on a Company Network
What to do when a session shows "Your network is blocking the voice connection."
Some company networks block the voice connection that a Signal Session needs. A Signal Session is the voice conversation a participant has with Savo's AI interviewer. After reading this page, you'll know how to spot this problem, how a participant can finish their session today, and what to test before your next launch.
What the participant sees
The session page and invitation link load normally, but the conversation never starts. Instead, the participant sees a page titled Your network is blocking the voice connection. The page says:
"This often happens on company networks, VPNs, or virtual desktops. Open this same link on your phone or another device that isn't on that network. Nothing is lost; you'll start where you left off."
Below that is a line of technical detail, such as "could not establish signal connection: Failed to fetch," a QR code for the participant's invitation link, and a Try Again button.
Why it happens
A Signal Session uses two kinds of connection. The page itself loads over the normal web. The voice conversation uses a separate real-time connection. Company networks, VPNs, and virtual desktops sometimes allow the first and block the second.
Finish the session on your phone or another device
- Scan the QR code on the page with your device's camera.
- Allow microphone access when the browser asks.
- Continue the session.
Note: A failed attempt doesn't use up the session. The link stays valid and an admin doesn't need to reset the link.
Tip: Try Again helps only if the network dropped for a moment. If the network is blocking the connection, trying again on the same device will show the same page.
Before you launch to a company network
- Test the session from the same kind of device, browser and network your participants will use, such as a managed work laptop on the company network or a virtual desktop. A test from a personal computer or a home network won't show this problem.
- If you expect participants to join from a restricted network, tell them in the invitation or reminder that they can complete the session on their phone.
- If your test shows this error page, your company network or browser is blocking the voice connection. Before you launch, ask your IT team to allow it, and contact Savo support for help. If it can't be fixed before launch, tell participants to complete the session on a phone or another device.
