How Event Studio Selects Your Interview Mode

How Savo automatically selects the interview mode for your event — and how to change it

When you create a Signal Event in Event Studio, Savo's AI automatically selects the interview mode that best fits your research goal — based on how you describe it during intake. You don't choose the mode yourself; the system determines the right fit from your description.

Understanding what each mode does helps you describe your goal clearly so the right mode is selected. If the selected mode doesn't match your intent, you can change it at any time: open the event in the Event Editor and select a different mode in the Interview Mode section.

The Four Modes

Explore & Discover Open-ended conversation that follows the participant's lead. Selected when your intake frames the goal around discovery — understanding a landscape, surfacing what you don't yet know, learning what factors are at play. If you describe your goal in terms of exploration or understanding what's happening in a space, this mode is likely to be selected.

Profile & Characterize Structured coverage across defined dimensions, building a comparable picture of a person, role, or situation. Selected when your intake frames the goal around assessment or comparison — evaluating people against a framework, building consistent profiles across a group. If you describe your goal in terms of scoring, evaluating, or comparing people across areas, this mode is likely to be selected.

Recall & Reconstruct Guides participants through reconstruction of a specific past experience, drawing out narrative detail across a timeline. Selected when your intake frames the goal around understanding what happened — why a specific outcome occurred, how a decision was made, what drove a result. If you describe your goal in terms of investigating a past situation or reconstructing an experience, this mode is likely to be selected.

Intake & Triage Efficient, structured information gathering that prioritizes completeness and accuracy. Selected when your intake frames the goal around capturing specific information rather than exploring openly — feeding a workflow, screening participants, or gathering structured data. If you describe your goal in terms of information collection, intake, or routing, this mode is likely to be selected.
